NFL Rumors – Detroit Lions Want to Sign Reggie Bush

Although he’ll never be an all-time great like many thought when he came out of College, the two seasons with the Miami Dolphins have brought back appreciation for Reggie Bush and his ability as a feature back, which causes a lot of interest with the running-back needing Detroit Lions.

The Lions were supposed to compete for the postseason in 2012 after a breakout year in 2011, but a lot of problems, including not having a trustworthy running back after the season ending injury to Jahvid Best, led to a 5-11 season, with a lot of holes to fill around Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson and a pretty good defensive line.

While Reggie Bush has never played in a cold-weather city before, including in college (USC), the Lions do play in a dome and Bush, who all signals point to that he won’t be returning to Miami in 2013, might be the man to lead their running back crew, which also includes Mikel Leshoure and Joique Bell.

During his two seasons with the Dolphins, Bush ran for 2072 yards, averaging 4.7 yards per carry, scoring 12 touchdowns. Bush is also a very capabale receiver, which was pretty much his main use with the New Orleans Saints (when he was healthy). Bush caught 78 passes for the Dolphins in 2011 and 2012.

One problem with Bush is his contract – he earned $4.5 million last season and the 27 year old is probably going to be a costly addition to any team who has to carefully watch their cap space, including the Lions. Another issue is Bush looking to play for a team that is a contender. While the Lions aren’t that far away from being a potential playoff team, the 5-11 season might deter him from going to Detroit, although the addition of him and making the right pick at number 5 might bring them right back into the discussion in the NFC North.
