NFL Rumors – Kansas City Chiefs Won’t Trade for Nick Foles

NFL Rumors – Kansas City Chiefs Won’t Trade for Nick Foles

The unavoidable Andy Reid-Kansas City Chiefs-Philadelphia Eagles connection immediately puts Nick Foles, one of four quarterbacks the Eagles have on their payroll, as a candidate to get traded for the Chiefs, but it seems that the difference between perceived market value and actual demand will hamper the deal.

After all, it’s about the standards Andy Reid himself set with the franchise. He has traded starting quarterbacks in the past. Donovan McNabb was sent to the Washington Redskins for a second round draft pick. Kevin Kolb was sent to the Arizona Cardinals for a second round draft pick. A.J. Feeley was sent to the Miami Dolphins for a second round draft pick. What do you think the Eagles are going to expect for Foles?

The problem is Nick Foles doesn’t have much of a CV to show he can do any better than what Matt Cassel or Brady Quinn brought to the table last season in Kansas City. Foles did play for a banged up offensive line, but still, there’s not much to expect for a player who went 1-5 as a starter, completing 60.8% of his passes, throwing for 1699 yards, 6 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. While it isn’t bad, there was nothing really special coming from Foles during the last month and a half of the season.

According to the trend set by Reid, the Chiefs are going to have to let go of the 34th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. According to mock drafts across the country, not a single QB is going to be selected in the first round anyway. The question is this – considering the Chiefs can’t get their hands on Alex Smith or Matt Flynn, is Foles a bigger risk or not than taking Geno Smith, Matt Barkley, Mike Glennon or anyone else who is projected to come out first among the college quarterbacks?

The Philadelphia Eagles now have four quarterbacks – Michael Vick, Dennis Dixon, Trent Edwards and Nick Foles. Both Foles and Edwards don’t have the running quality Chip Kelly wants to see in his quarterbacks. Edwards is not going to fetch them a second round pick. Foles might, but probably not from the Chiefs. Then from who? At the moment, it doesn’t seem like anyone is biting.
