NFL Rumors – St. Louis Rams an Option for Anquan Boldin

Despite saying in the past that he only wants to play for the Baltimore Ravens, it seems that Anquan Boldin might carry on with NFL career with another team, as he is refusing to take a pay cut in order to help the team’s salary cap situation, which might lead him to be released, possibly ending up with the St. Louis Rams.

It’s all about supply and demand, and Boldin, despite being 32 with 140 career games behind him, is hot commodity, especially after Brian Harline and Dwayne Bowe chose to sign new contracts and remain with their teams (Dolphins & Chiefs respectively). Boldin enjoyed his most productive season for the Ravens in 2012, catching 65 passes for 921 yards and four touchdowns. He was much better in the postseason, with 22 catches for 380 yards and four touchdowns, including a big Super Bowl (104 yards, TD).

The St. Louis Rams need a wide receiver  pretty much left with no one prominent if Gibson and Danny Amendola hit free agency and find another team to play for. Boldin is owed over $6 million for 2013, something the Ravens can’t afford for someone who isn’t their number one receiver with plenty of other needs to address. Boldin knows his value in this market, and decided that there’s no need to take a pay cut if in his future is being cut by the Ravens and finding himself on another team.

There’s loyalty, but money comes first, as well it should in a career of an NFL player. After winning a Super Bowl, Boldin doesn’t have to settle for less money to play for a contender. The St. Louis Rams, desperately looking for a way to improve the options Sam Bradford has to throw to, will be paying him the $6 million a season and a bit more if he gets released in the next couple of days.
