The Wayne Rooney – Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Robert Lewandowski Connection

Sometimes, transfer rumors and the actual European football transfer market works as some sort of domino effect, with one player leaving creating a certain chain of events. It’s hard to say where it began with the trio of Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robert Lewandowski, but it seems their futures are connected is some way.

We begin with Wayne Rooney, who seems to be always on the fritz with Alex Ferguson, despite the titles and the goals that keep coming. Rooney’s fitness and also Ferguson’s way of treating the England star at times (benching him before Real Madrid) might be enough of a reason to push him out of the team, but where? Real Madrid and Manchester United don’t seem to be interested in his salary, and going to Anzhi isn’t really an option. PSG seems like the likeliest of scenarios.

But wait, Saint-Germain have Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the undisputed star of the team, right? Well, it seems Ibra isn’t exactly thrilled about life in Paris, and despite all of the success he has helped the team achieve this season – a Champions League quarterfinal and leading the French league by 4 points so far, favorites to win their first league title since 1994. Despite everything, there’s something that always pushes Ibrahimovic to another destination, maybe to Bayern Munich.

But hold on – Pep Guardiola is going to be the Bayern manager, and Ibrahimovic and Guardiola aren’t exactly best of friends, right? Well, it seems that Guardioal, at least according to the persistent rumors, isn’t giving up on the Swedish striker, who brings a league title everywhere he goes, but also adds the factor of a team relying completely on him, casting a huge shadow over everyone else. Bayern have also been rumored to be the favorites to land Robert Lewandowski, who completes our connection of strikers.

The Polish forward, having another excellent season for Dortmund, scoring 24 goals in all competitions so far, doesn’t want to sign a new contract, which will lead to Dormtund selling him in the summer. Where? It depends on if Bayern go for Ibra or not. While Lewandowski prefers to play for United, Bayern might be able to offer more money than Alex Ferguson’s side.
