While piece after piece of the Baltimore Ravens keeps drifting away, their all-time interceptions leader seems to be next one to go, as Ed Reed is very close according to everyone involved, including himself and the Houston Texans, to find himself a new team.

Reed won the Super Bowl last season with the Ravens, and besides being a 9-time Pro Bowler, he is the Ravens’ franchise leader in interceptions with 61, and his 1,541 return yards with those pickoffs is an NFL career record. Baltimore have already lost linebackers Dannell Ellerbe (Miami Dolphins) and Paul Kruger (Cleveland Browns) in free agency, released safety Bernard Pollard and guard Bobbie Williams and traded wide receiver Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers.

Ed Reed, despite being a legend with the Ravens and their need to keep at least someone vital from the falling apart side, might be redundant for the team, trying to go a bit leaner, younger and maybe with less of an attitude for the next few years, maybe delivering the dressing room completely to Joe Flacco.

Both of us want to get a championship, going to see if we can work some things out. Conversations have been great, amazing, on the same page of what needs to get done and what we want to do. It’s that Southern hospitality us Southerners have.

The Texans cut receiver Kevin Walter, then lost tight end James Casey to Philadelphia and safety Glover Quin to Detroit after the opening of the free-agency period, and seem to be in need of a signing to improve the mood for the AFC South champions.
