The fax saga is about to be over, hopefully for both Elvis Dumervil and the Denver Broncos, as the team has offered their recently released (by mistake) player a new contract, hoping that this time it goes a little bit more smoothly.

Recap – in 2010, before John Elway became the all-can-do-master for the Broncos, Dumervil signed a six year, $61.5 million deal with the Broncos, backed by a stellar 2009 campagin, recording 17 sacks as a linebacker. He hasn’t reached those heights again, but it’s safe to say Dumervil is almost a guarantee for double-digit sacks at DE or LB, coming in second on the team with 11 last season, completing a very successful duo next to Von Miller as Denver were probably the best pass-rushing team in the league.

Fast forward to March 2013. The Broncos manage to restructure the deal with Dumervil so he’ll be getting $8 million next season. Dumervil agrees to it close to the deadline, but his agent doesn’t fax the Broncos the papers on time. Because of the deadline that expires, the Broncos release Dumervil, who would have cost them $12 million in 2013 if he remained on the same contract.

Now, about a week later since those following the NFL were quite shocked by the stoogey like turn of events, also getting Dumervil’s agent fired, Elway has announced that the Broncos have offered Dumervil a contract, hoping that his claims that he wants to get back to Denver are true, and not just a way to get the Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots to try and make him a better offer, which should be around the $8 million a season, although the Broncos will have to pay a little more because of a certain cap situation that developed to them releasing Dumervil and re-signing him so shortly after.
