While the Indianapolis Colts aren’t completely decided on whether to improve their wide receiver situation through the draft or stick to free agency plans, the next name on their potential visitors list is Brandon Lloyd, who was released by the New England Patriots despite enjoying a mostly productive season.
The 10-year veteran has been around the block a few times, playing for six different franchises, ending up with the Patriots last season, finishing with 74 catches for 911 yards, also scoring four touchdowns. While he isn’t exactly #1 receiver material – only one season in his career with more than 1000 yards, he’s certainly capable of being a important part in a multiple receivers set, giving Andrew Luck a little bit more help in finding open targets. The Colts heavily relied on their passing game last season, and will continue to do so unless some sort of gem falls into their hands during draft day to help the stuttering running game.
Lloyd was released from the Patriots because of the money he was about to make in 2013. Now, the Colts might enjoy being patient when it comes to a free agent WR’s, although if the money issues aren’t resolved with Lloyd, like they weren’t with the previous visitor, Darrius Heyward-Bey, the Colts might skip trying to sign a free agent at the position, with other names still available including Laurent Robinson, Mohamed Massaquoi and Josh Cribbs and look to the draft to find the answer to their needs.
