NFL Rumors – Seattle Seahawks Interested in Colt McCoy

No one is going to make Colt McCoy their starting quarterback. Not the Cleveland Browns, and not any other team in the NFL. But as windows open and close around the league, the opportunity to make him a quality backup might seem very intriguing to the Seattle Seahawks, finding themselves in need of one very soon.

With the Matt Flynn-to-the-Oakland Raiders trade not far from happening, it looks like Seattle won’t be looking for someone to backup Wilson through the draft, as it seems that would put unnecessary pressure on the young quarterback to continue and impress after a very surprising rookie season. Bringing in someone who knows he’s a backup might be the better idea.

McCoy hardly played in 2012, never starting a game, throwing a total of 17 passes in his three times out on the field. He’s a career 6-15 starter for the Browns, and is looking to leave. Brandon Weeden is the favorite to win the starting job at the moment, with Matt Barkley rumored to be making a lot of fans and friends among decision makers in Cleveland. Jason Campbell is also in the mix, which makes things a little bit crowded for someone who wants to know that being a number 2 guy is something he can count on.

The Browns do not want to release McCoy, but will be listening to trades for him. Seeing as how he’s a much cheaper option than Flynn, it seems like a very good deal for the Seahawks to try and make before McCoy somehow ends up on the open market and they have to compete for him, raising his price.
