After losing two of their top three receivers from last season, it doesn’t seem like the St. Louis Rams did enough in free agency to replace them, which means they’ll be looking for a way to improve the situation through the draft (in which they have two first-round picks) by getting Tavon Austin coming out of West Virginia.
The Rams aren’t alone in their interest in Austin, who wasn’t just one of the more impressive receivers last season in College Football with 1289 yards and 11 touchdowns, but also won the Johnny Rodgers award for being the best return man in the nation. Despite his size (5’8), teams feel that he more than makes up for it with his speed, hands and ability to operate in space. He can also run the ball, going for 643 rushing yards last season.
Some refer to him as the best play-maker in this draft class, which means it wouldn’t be too surprising to see him coming off the board before the Rams take their first pick at 16. Still, it seems they have to go with someone who can score touchdowns in this draft, especially a target for Sam Bradford, who lost Danny Amendola and Brandon Gibson, his number 2 & 3 receivers from last season, while the Rams did add Jared Cook at tight end, producing 523 yards in 13 games last season.
If Austin isn’t the one they come up with, they’re more likely to wait till round 2 and select one of the following –  Justin Hunter, Robert Woods,Quinton Patton and Ryan Swope.
