While not all backup quarterbacks create the same sort of hype around the NFL, every team needs a decent option behind their starter, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in the market for one, most likely going for Adam Weber, who’ll most likely be released by the Arizona Cardinals before the NFL Draft.

After acquiring Drew Stanton and Carson Palmer while getting rid of John Skelton and Kevin Kolb, the Cardinals have Weber as their number 3 option on the depth chart. With a cap hit of $2 million to be taken by keeping him around, it would be very surprising to see him stay on their roster for much longer.

The former Minnesota Golden Gophers quarterback went undrafted in 2011 but got picked up by the Denver Broncos. Last season he was on the Cards’ roster, but has yet to play in the regular season during his NFL career, despite some impressive moments during preseason games.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released Dan Orlovsky last week, leaving a big glaring hole and need to fill on the bench behind Josh Freeman. While the Cardinals are hoping someone tries to trade for Weber, that’s a scenario that in all likelihood isn’t even close to developing, and they will be forced to cut him soon enough, which is what the Bucs are waiting for, not willing to give up any kind of assets for a player who is a number 2 guy at best.
