NFL Rumors – San Diego Chargers Interested in Antonio Johnson

Antonio Johnson

It’s been a very quiet off-season so far for the San Diego Chargers, with their cap situation limiting their ability to get players in the free agency market. After working some things out, they are in a position to make some changes and signings, and Antonio Johnson, last seen playing for the Indianapolis Colts as their nose tackle, might be the first name on their long overdue signing list.

Johnson started in 13 games last season for the Colts, playing a total of 67 games since beginning his NFL career with them in 2008. The 28 year old out of Mississippi State isn’t much of an impressive tackle, notching up only 1.5 sacks during his career, but he does a good job in occupying an offensive line, allowing penetration for the pass rushers, while also being a decent run stopper.

And yet, despite their need (they have many needs) to improve their defensive situation along the line, the Chargers are probably going to wait a little bit, seeing as Johnson hasn’t been getting too many offers since the beginning of free agency. Johnson isn’t exactly a top-class free agent and despite getting to visit the Chargers, it seems that they’re going to move slow on this one, possibly waiting a bit closer till draft day or possibly even after to make their final decision about him.
