NFL Rumors – Atlanta Falcons Interested in Drafting Zach Ertz

Zach Ertz

While Zach Ertz isn’t the top tight end prospect in the NFL draft (Tyler Eifert is), Ertz is looking like someone who should be a low first round pick. With the Atlanta Falcons looking to find a successor to Tony Gonzalez, they just might try and trade up for the former Stanford player.

The only thing that worries people about Ertz, who was a backup until his Senior season with the Cardinal, is of him being a one-year wonder. Ertz finished last season with 69 receptions for 898 yards and six touchdowns. While not exceptionally long with his arms or in his ability to catch difficult balls, it seems he has that rare sense of where to be to make himself open, with his separation creating skills being his biggest weapon in the arsenal.

In order to draft Ertz, the Falcons are probably going to need to move up from 30 in order to get him or anyone that has a chance of being an immediate impact players. With 11 draft picks, 7 of them trade-able, the Falcons have a very good chance of moving up the charts in order to get the player they want, hoping they succeed in the same way they landed Julio Jones in the 2011 NFL draft after moving on up.

There doesn’t seem to be one desperate need to fill for the solid Flacons, hoping to make another run like they did last season, ending up in the NFC Championship game, one good throw away from a win. Some say they might try and land a quarterback or possibly even a cornerback and/or defensive tackle. The things that makes sense to most is filling in their need at tight end, with Zach Ertz being the guy they prefer over Eifert at the moment.
