NFL Rumors – Eddie Lacy Wants Green Bay Packers to Draft Him

The Green Bay Packers have been in the business of finding a running back that could take the load of Aaron Rodgers for quite a while, but they’re not the kind of team to make a splash on an expensive free agent, rather trying to find a suitable fit through the draft. Eddie Lacy, coming out of Alabama, thinks he might be the perfect choice.

Lacy is probably going to be the first running back taken off the board in the 2013 NFL Draft, which means that the Packers, with the 26th overall pick, might have to move up in order to take him, because there are a couple of times interested in filling a hole in that position, with someone as strong and hard to stop as Lacy looking like a very good fit.

Lacy was ranked higher in the mocks a few weeks ago, but the timing of the workouts didn’t sit well with him, recently recovering from a hamstring injury. Still, the body of work and especially during his senior season, rushing for 1322 yards and scoring 17 touchdowns is enough to make him the number one choice for those looking at a running back that can make an immediate impact.

They’re very talented on offense and I feel like I’d be able to help out a lot if they picked me at that position. I’m pretty much as complete as it gets. By the time it was anywhere close to 100%, I only had two weeks to train. Everybody knows that two weeks is not enough time, pretty much to do anything.

One snag in Lacy’s plans, even if he is on the Packers’ radar, is their history of picks. Ted Thompson has only drafted three running backs in 76 picks with the Green Bay Packers, and not one of those came in the first round. That doesn’t bode too well for his chances to be picked by the Packers at 26, although it doesn’t mean a trade coming later is out of the question, especially for a team in need of some run support.
