NFL Rumors – San Francisco 49ers Interested in Draft Dee Milliner

Dee Milliner Alabama

The top cornerback in the 2013 NFL draft is Dee Milliner coming out of Alabama, but his draft stock seems to be slipping in the last couple of weeks with some health and medical concerns raised by some. It still hasn’t hurt the interest in him from those with a high enough pick, or those like the San Francsico 49ers, looking to trade up and try to land the sliding player.

Milliner and his past of surgeries has caused some to be alarmed and make him fall from a potential top 5 pick to the edges of the top 10. He still is the best secondary player to be found in this draft class, but some thing that some sort of smear campaign is being used against him, hurting his standing and future prospect.

The 49ers were initially labeled as a team that might move up in order to get a top class defensive lineman, hoping that he becomes the guy who takes over for Justin Smith in due time. They have the number 31 and 34 picks, but will probably look to pull the trigger on the proposed trade if a player they like suddenly becomes available after the first few picks.

But they have turned their focus, it seems, towards more secondary improvement, feeling that adding Nnamdi Asmougha and Craig Dahl isn’t enough to improve the area on defense they felt was their biggest weakness last season. Grabbing Milliner might be a risk with the news of his medical past coming to light, but it still seems like a very talented player who is worth taking a chance on, considering the skill set and size he brings to the table.
