After last making news with a little bit of interest in Israel Idonije of the Chicago Bears, the Tennessee Titans continue to bring in defensive ends for visits, this time looking at John Abraham, who played for the Atlanta Falcons over the last seven seasons.

Abrahama was one of the biggest veteran names hitting free agency when the meat-market kicked off, but his salary demands, similar to those of Dwight Freeney, looking for something along the lines of $5-6 million a season, was too much for teams that were seeing a 34 year old player trying to rob them entering this twilight years.

The Titans need a lot of help in pass rushing, and did not address that need with their top draft picks. They took Lavar Edwards, a defensive end out of LSU, with their 5th round pick and Zaviar Gooden, a linebacker out of Missouri, with a late (97th) third round pick. They clearly need a little bit more in terms of players who can get to the quarterback.

At this point, anything will be an improvement, and Abraham, despite days away from turning 35, is still a very productive pass-rusher. He has missed only one game over the last six seasons and has gotten to the quarterback 32.5 times over the past three seasons, including 10 in 2012. He might not be as solid as other options in stopping the run, but he usually makes up for it with his ability to beat tackles on the outside.

The Titans weren’t interested in Abraham before the draft, but any teams still looking to improve certain positions at this point, with May on its way already, has the leverage over players who are still without a new team for 2013. If Abraham is willing to bring down his demands a little bit, the Titans could end up grabbing one of the more productive defensive ends over the past decade in the NFL for a bargain price.
