While some veteran linebackers can’t seem to get an offer, it’s just a matter of time before Karlos Dansby lands a job for the 2013 NFL season. The latest likeliest destination? His former team, the Arizona Cardinals, who might need an insurance policy at the position due to some unforeseen events.

These unforeseen events are Daryl Washington and his off-field issues. Already suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season, he has recently been attested in suspicion to domestic assault charges, which means that the talented young linebacker might not be available for even longer than initially planned.

In that case, the Cardinals are going to need some serious insurance plan, and Dansby, who was very close to signing with the Buffalo Bills but instead decided to keep on waiting for a better offer, might turn out to be the one to step in for Washington.

Dansby, who played for the Miami Dolphins over the last three season, is quite familiar with the system in Arizona, spending six seasons with the Cardinals, including reaching the Super Bowl after the 2008 season. He was often used as a weakside linebacker and not in the middle, but losing a step has pushed him into the MLB position over the last couple of seasons.

Dansby is starters quality in any case, and while not as quick on his feet as before, his hands are fine, still lightning quick and owning very good timing when it comes to try and force a fumble or deflect a pass. The Cardinals might not be in the race alone, but now that they’re in dire need, it’s likely that they have the lead in the race for Dansby.
