NFL Rumors – Tampa Bay Buccaneers Will Turn Mike Williams Into a Rich Man

Entering the last season of his rookie contract, Mike Williams and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team that seems to be on the rise and on a spending spree like no other in the NFL, are about to extend their relationship that will give the wide receiver the kind of contract extension that makes up for the money “he lost” during his first three seasons in the NFL.

Williams has averaged 64.3 catches and 910 yards through his early NFL career, and is entering his fourth season on a rookie deal that eventually pays him $2.33 million in total; quite a catch for a fourth rounder, coming this cheaply.

Williams is entering his fourth NFL season, following catching 63 passes for 996 yards and 9 touchdowns during his Junior year in the league.

But while Williams might not be providing them with Vincent Jackson kind of numbers (1384 yards last season), there’s no doubt that a very big part of one of the most productive offenses in the NFL is the #2 guy, Williams, who deserves to be paid more entering the second stage of his career in the NFL.

Despite all of their additions, including giving Darrelle Revis $16 million a season, the Bucs should be around $12 million under the cap even after getting all their rookies signed up. Williams is already sitting down with the team, hoping he’s going to get a lot more than the $1.4 million he is due to make next season.

The Bucs don’t want to get into a situation in which they’re forced to try and keep Williams away from the free agency market. They’re building something quite impressive, and spending money on Williams was in their plans. He’s not going to get Vincent Jackson money (around $11 million a season), but there are talks of what is considered around the NFL to be Anquan Boldin money: Something in the area of $25 million on a four year deal.

As long as Williams and his agent don’t go overboard with their demands, thinking the Bucs should be playing two players like they’re franchise receivers, that kind of money should suit both the team and Williams himself very well for the near future.
