NFL Rumors – Miami Dolphins & New York Giants Interested in Vonta Leach

Vonta Leach

There aren’t that many fullbacks left in the NFL, but the good ones always have a place in the league, with Vonta Leach getting some serious interest from both the Miami Dolphins and the New York Giants.

Leach played a part in the Baltimore Ravens winning the Super Bowl, but like many veterans on the team, found himself released after declining to take paycuts the Ravens were offering. So after three consecutive seasons of being named a first-team All Pro, Leach, a 31-year old nine year veteran, found himself without a team.

In come the Dolphins, still with plenty of cap space to use, and probably the better connection to the player. Joe Philbin, the head coach of the Dolphins, and Mike Sherman, the team’s offensive coordinator, both have a history with Leach in the past during their time in different positions (Sherman was the head coach) with the Green Bay Packers.

Meanwhile, as the Dolphins are the most interested and likely party to get their hands on Leach, the New York Giants have been keeping an eye on him since he was released by the Baltimore Ravens. Leach said that the Giants have already contacted his agent, and are keeping tabs on his situation.

With the knee injury to Henry Hynoski requiring surgery, there’s a very good chance the Giants do make a move for Leach before the Dolphins wrap the deal up, and at least give him another option, although the Dolphins are probably the team that can offer him more money.

Leach caught 21 passes for 143 yards last season, adding 32 more yards and a touchdown on 9 carries.
