It’s not easy being an old man in a young man’s game, and Richard Seymour, still without a team for the 2013 NFL season, despite doing a good job with the Oakland Raiders last season and getting interest from the Atlanta Falcons, is considering giving up on the whole thing and retiring.

Seymour, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots, has spent the last four seasons playing for the Oakland Raiders, shifting to the defensive tackle position, making two Pro Bowls (2010-2011) and one All-Pro team in 2011.

Still, this hasn’t helped him in the market, as he’s asking for too high of a price, which was the reason he was released by the Raiders in the first place (due to the $13 million coming his way in 2013). He’s been having talks with the Atlanta Falcons, who have already spent a lot of money on signing another veteran defensive lineman, Osi Umenyiora, which doesn’t make them too enthusiastic about adding another expensive player at the end of his career.

There are those who believed that once Tyson Clabo became a free agent, Seymour would be free to join the Falcons, but that didn’t happen. Now, the rumors suggest that when the Falcons finish their negotiations about the future contract of Matt Ryan and have a much better idea of how the future looks like, they’ll finalize the deal with Seymour.

But for now – nothing’s happening, and the 33 year old, with 12 NFL seasons behind him, feels he’s slowly being pushed out of a league he’s been dominating in for so long, and probably thinks it might be the best thing for him, despite all the sadness of leaving.
