NBA Rumors – Minnesota Timberwolves Interested in Signing Corey Brewer

Corey Brewer

Despite being a very big disappointment during his first tenure with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Corey Brewer might be on his way back to the team that drafted him after a successful season as a bench player for the Denver Nuggets.

The 7th overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft, Brewer tore his ACL in the beginning of the 2008-2009 season, and even though he posted career-high numbers next year, it wasn’t enough to keep his job, and he was part of the mega-trade that sent Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks, although the Knicks cut him loose.

Brewer won an NBA championship with the Dallas Mavericks, although he played a very small part in it, before joining the Nuggets, who seemed to have less expectations for him, but were much more fitting for his style of basketball, and he played a big part in last season’s success (pre-playoff), averaging 12.1 points on 24.4 minutes per game.

After already re-signing Chase Budinger, the Timberwolves want a small forward with a bit more of a defensive orientation, and Brewer might be the player they’ll go for, even though the limited cap-space they have (only $2.6 million) might become a problem for them.

However, Minnesota are trying to move Luke Ridnour and J.J. Barea, While the Denver Nuggets don’t have any need for a point guard, if a third team gets involved in such a deal, there’s a chance the Timberwolves will be able to pull this off via a sign-and-trade, giving Brewer a better deal than what they currently can give him, and solidify their situation on the wing.

The Timberwolves have already added Kevin Martin to be their starting shooting guard this season, and if Shabazz Muhammad proves he’s more than just a one-dimensional player, they have themselves some great offense on the wing from the draft. Adding Brewer wouldn’t make them a complete team, but will undoubtedly push the Timberwolves higher in the preseason playoff predictions in the West.
