NFL Rumors – Indianapolis Colts & Cleveland Browns Interested in Signing Donald Jones

Donald Jones

Despite training camp being just around the corner, some teams still haven’t completed their additions and signings, waiting for some “gems” to be released by other teams. One such player is wide receiver Donald Jones, and two teams looking to add him are the Indianapolis Colts and the Cleveland Browns.

Jones was signed four months ago by the New England Patriots, but was waived a week ago by the Pats. No one is looking for the three-year veteran to become a number one or number two wide receiver, but for teams with depth issues like the Colts & Browns, Jones could be quite a welcomed addition.

He played for the Buffalo Bills over the last three years, last season showing some signs of growth and improvement, catching a career high 41 passes for 443 yards and 4 touchdowns, which was more than half his previous career totals.

For the Colts, the clear number one is still the fantastic Reggie Wayne, with the explosive T.Y. Hilton emerging as his solid number two, hoping to build on a very strong 2012 season (861 yards, 7 touchdowns). However, for a team that heavily relies on their quarterback’s arm, they need more than that, and have a problem with LaVon Brazill suspended for the initial four games of the season.

They have added Darrius Heyward-Bey via free agency, but Jones would be a very good third or fourth option for them if they were to pick him up.

As for the Browns, their quarterback situation is less than clear, and so is their wide receiver situation. They have a talented group of young receivers in Josh Gordon, Greg Little and Travis Benjamin, but Gordon will serve a two-game suspension to start the season and one of his backups, David Nelson, is still recovering from major knee surgery, making Jones a lucrative possible addition.
