NFL Rumors – Miami Dolphins Interested in Signing Laurent Robinson

As Laurent Robinson continues to make his way through NFL teams and workouts, it seems there’s yet another team showing interest in the free agent wide receiver; the Miami Dolphins, looking to replace some injured players.

The season-ending injury plague hasn’t skipped over the Dolphins, losing Armon Binns for the entire season, tearing his ACL & MCL, meaning it’s one of those injuries that might keep him off the field for an entire year if not more.

Robinson isn’t the only wide receiver who can bring some production available – Brandon Lloyd, Austin Collie, Steve Breaston, Donald Jones and Randy Moss are still out there, but Robinson is coming in for a workout, which probably shows they’re a little bit more serious about him.

Binns was lined up to become the Dolphins’ premier slot receiver this season, following a season in which he caught 27 passes for 277 yards and 1 touchdown, playing for both the Cincinnati Bengals and the Dolphins. In comparison, Robinson was similarly busy with the Jags last season, finishing with 24 receptions, 252 yards and no touchdowns, a huge drop off from his career-best 2011 season with the Dallas Cowboys.

While the Dolphins certainly look interested in bringing in another player, don’t count out the chances of simply giving more responsibility to some players on the current roster. Their acquisition of Brandon Gibson from the St. Louis Rams was criticized and still is, but he might be one of the players who will make the most out of Binns ending his season.

There’s also Marvin McNutt, entering his second season in the NFL without anything to show for from his rookie year, who might get some sort of promotion and actually see himself involved in the offensive game of the Dolphins for once, and yet for a team aiming to make the playoffs, improving their depth at wide receiver seems like a primary concern at the moment, so adding Robinson or another free agent seems like a very possible scenario.
