As always, the United States finish on top of the Swimming World Championships, leading the gold and total medal count, with Missy Franklin emerging as the big star of the pool for the women, winning a total of six gold medals despite only recently turning 18.

Sun Yang of China won three gold medals out of his nation’s five, while Katie Ledecky won three individual and four gold medals in total for her country (the United States) as well.

Women – Zhao Jing in the 50 meters backstorke with 27.29. Liu Zige in the 200 meters butterfly with 2:04.59.

France – 4

Men – Yannick Agnel in the 200 meters freestyle with 1:44.20. Camille Lacourt in the 50 meters backstroke with 24.42. Yannick Agnel, Florent Manadou, Fabien Gilot and Jeremy Stravius in the 4×100 meters freestyle with 3:11.18. Australia – 3

Men – James Magnussen in the 100 meters freestyle with 47.71. Christian Sprenger in the 100 meters breaststroke with 58.79.

Women – Cate Campbell in the 100 meters freestyle with 52.34.

Hungary – 3

Men – Daniel Gyurta in the 200 meters breaststroke with 2:07.23.

Women – Katinka Hosszú in the 200 individual medley with 2:07.92. Katinka Hosszú in the 400 individual medley with 4:30.41

South Africa – 3

Men – Cameron van der Burgh in the 50 meters breaststroke with 26.77. Chad le Clos in the 100 meters butterfly with 51.06. Chad le Clos in the 200 meters butterfly with 1:54.32.

2 – Russia, Brazil

Brazil had Cesar Cielo win both gold medals for them: One in the 50 meters freestyle and the other in the 50 meters butterfly. For Russia, Yulia Yefimova was the winner of both gold medals, winning the 50 meters breaststroke and the 200 meters.

1 – Denmark, Japan, Sweden, Lithuania and Netherlands

Jeanette Ottesen of Denmark won her gold medal in the 50 meters butterfly. Daiya Seto of Japan won his gold medal in the 400 meters individual medley. Sarah Sjöström of Sweden won her gold medal in the 100 meters butterfly. Rūta Meilutytė of Lithuania won her gold medal in the 100 meters breaststroke. Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherland won her gold medal in the 50 meters freestyle.
