On a Roll – Hottest Players in The NBA (Playoff Push Edition)

Two weeks before the playoffs begin – Here are the top 5 players in the NBA during the past few weeks.

Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat

The Heat are currently 5th in the Eastern conference, riding on a eight game winning streak, with Wade scoring 30+ in four of the last five games, and is really smoking on the last couple of days, scoring 43 points against the Indiana Pacers and 39 against the Timberwolves last night. His is fifth in the NBA in scoring (26.6) and 10th in assists (6.6), probably hoping for a match-up against the Celtics in the next round, looking the most vulnerable team out of the top 4.

Danny Granger, Indiana Pacers

Not a playoff contender, but Granger has been awesome for the Pacers in the last couple of weeks, which makes you wonder if he wouldn’t have missed December and some of January, maybe the Pacers could have been playing for a playoff spot. Well, potential and hypothetical theories aside, Granger has been on fire since March 19, averaging 30.5 points per game in his last 8 games, including a 44 points performance in the win over Utah about a week ago.

LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers

Can’t have a list like this and not have LeBron James on it, leading the Cavs to the league’s best record again this season. Since getting a couple of games to rest about a month ago, James has been doing his usual thing, playing under 38 minutes only once in his last 11 games, during the Cavs’ blowout of the Pistons. He has averaged in those 11 games 27.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and 8.4 assists while leading the Cavs to a 10-1 record, with wins over Boston (30 points, 8 boards, 7 dimes) and Atlanta (27 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists).

Manu Ginobili, San Antonio Spurs

I guess Ginobili decided he didn’t want the bat incident to be the most memorable moment of his season and started playing in the level the Spurs need him to be for the playoffs. In general his game has radically improved since February, but March was huge for Manu, averaging 22.1 points in 31 minutes a night. Since March 19th Ginobili has averaged 28.1 points in 8 games, including 38 points against the Hawks (loss), 30 against the Cavs (win), 28 against the Celtics (win) and a 43 point explosion against the Magic on Friday in the Spurs’ 112-100 win.

Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder

After a super hot January averaging 32.1 points per game, Durant has “cooled down” averaging just below 30 in Feb-March. Seriously, he is amazing, averaging 29.6 points per game so far this season, right now third in the league. He’s been on fire pretty much since November which was the last time he scored less than 20 points in two out of a three game series. Last 8 games – 26.4 points and being the main reason nobody wants to face the Thunder when the post season starts in two weeks.
