It seems that Liverpool are trying to squeeze in quite a few signings before the end of the transfer window, as they get a little bit closer to the signature of Mamadou Sakho, ponder adding Shay Given as a backup goalkeeper while also making a bid for Andriy Yarmolenko of Dynamo Kyiv.
It seems like Liverpool’s main concern at the moment is a centre back, considering they have virtually no backup for Agger and Toure, with Toure possibly out of the matchup against Manchester United after picking up an injury in the League Cup against Notts County.
AS Roma are also after the French centre back from Paris Saint-Germain, but according to Sky Italia, which aren’t the most accurate resource in the world, Sakho has already agreed his personal terms with Liverpool, who now need to find the price PSG are willing to sell for.
A more surprising name to see is Andriy Yarmolenko, the fantastic right winger from Dynamo Kyiv, who impressed during Euro 2012, and has scored at least 11 goals in each of the past three seasons for the club. Liverpool need help on the right wing after selling Downing to West Ham, even though they’re quite loaded with forwards and wingers at the moment.
According to reports, Liverpool have made an offer worth €23 million for the 23-year old who has played 32 times for the national team, but it’s more than likely that Dynamo Kyiv will reject the bid, waiting for a bigger offer with Liverpool having a very short time to complete the deal.
Another surprising name that came up is Shay Given, who is still with Aston Villa but is clearly not going to play much unless something happens to Brad Guzan. Aston Villa might let Given go for free because he’s one of the highest earners on the team thanks to the 5-year deal he signed with the team in 2011, with his contract running until 2016.
