Remaining Undefeated Teams in Top European Leagues

Remaining Undefeated Teams in Top European Leagues

Not that many undefeated sides left among the top leagues in Europe after about a month of club football, as Liverpool & Everton are the only teams remaining in the Premier League; Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Villarreal, Real Madrid and Celta Vigo in the La Liga; Dortmund and Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga; Napoli, Inter, Juventus, Fiorentina and Roma in the Serie A; and Monaco and PSG in Ligue 1.

Liverpool, Celta and AS Roma still haven’t completed their league’s round, so they might not remain undefeated by the time Monday ends.

Premier League

Steven Naismith

Only two teams remain undefeated in the Premier League as we near the end of the fourth round of matches in England. Liverpool still have to play Swansea City, in hopes of remaining not just undefeated, but perfect, with a win pushing them back up to first position.

However, they’re not the only team in town without a loss, as Everton are the other Premier League club without a defeat, drawing their first three matches before beating Chelsea 1-0 this Saturday with a goal from Steven Naismith. The Toffees have six points at the moment, ranked 9th.

Spanish La Liga

Atletico Beat Almeria

No real change in the Spanish La Liga, with five teams still avoiding their first defeat of the season, although Celta Vigo still haven’t played their fourth league match, leaving Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Villarreal and Real Madrid as the only sides without a loss after four league matches.

Barcelona share the lead, following another less than comfortable win at home over Sevilla, which required Alexis Sanchez to score a goal deep into injury time, giving Barcelona the 3-2 win.

Also at first place, with 12 points and +10 goal difference, are Atletico Madrid. They had a much less difficult time against Almeria, beating the visitors 4-2 with goals from David Villa, Diego Costa, Tiago and Koke.

Villarreal are third with 10 points, thanks to a better goal difference than Real Madrid. The two teams met at El Madrigal, with Real barely squeaking out a 2-2 draw that ends their perfect start to the seasons. Celta Vigo still have to play Athletic Bilbao.

German Bundesliga

Marco Reus, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

No change in the Bundesliga in terms of the identity of the undefeated sides: Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table with a perfect 5-for-5, while Bayern Munich follow them with one draw in their opening five matches.

Dortmund were involved with a tricky match against Hamburg, who came back from an early 2-0 deficit. However, Dortmund stepped on it in the second half, scoring four goals in 16 minutes to finish with a 6-2 win, led by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with a brace.

Bayern Munich didn’t have the smoothest of matches at home against Hannover, but still came out as winners with a 2-0 scoreline, getting goals from Mario Mandzukic and Franck Ribery.

Italian Serie A

Gonzalo Higuain & Napoli Friends

After three matches have been played, it’s time to include the Serie A in this list as well, with five teams still without a loss.

Napoli are the league leaders and the only team with all nine points from the first three matches, beating Atalanta 2-0 over the weekend, getting another goal from Gonzalo Higuain.

Inter and Juventus are at second and third with one draw after their clash in the Derbi d’Italia at the San Siro, ending in a 1-1 draw with goals from Icardi and Vidal.

Fiorentina are fourth with 7 points as well, dropping points for the first time this season at home against Cagliari in a 1-1 draw.

AS Roma still haven’t played their first match (playing against Parma), but are hoping to build on their two wins from the first week.

French Ligue 1

Falcao

Still two teams undefeated – AS Monaco (leading the table), and Paris Saint-Germain, placed at third at the moment.

Monaco beat Lorient in an unimpressive home display, with Radamel Falcao scoring the only goal of the match from the penalty spot after only six minutes.

PSG won in Boredeaux on the Friday night match, getting goals from Blaise Matuidi and Lucas Moura. PSG have drawn twice this season, and have 11 points; two less than Monaco on top with 13 (one draw). In between are Saint Ettiene with 12 points, coming from four wins and one loss.
