Entering October, we still have 11 undefeated teams in the top 5 European leagues – One in the Premier League (Everton), two in La Liga (Barcelona, Atletico Madrid), two in the Bundesliga (Bayern Munich, Dortmund), four in the Serie A (Roma, Napoli, Juventus, Inter) and two in Ligue 1 (Monaco, PSG).
Everton continue their incredible start to the season by winning a third consecutive match. This time it was a rather comfortable 3-2 win over Newcastle, with Romelu Lukaku, inexplicably loaned out from Chelsea by Jose Mourinho, scoring twice, making it three since arriving at Goodison Park. Everton are now 4th in England with 12 points, three behind leaders Arsenal.
In Spain, it’s down to only two clubs – FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. The champions are perfect with 7 wins from the first 7 matches, as their most recent triumph was a 2-0 win over Almeria, improving their scoring record to 24-5 so far this season. Atletico are also perfect at 7-from-7, their most recent win being a huge 1-0 derby victory over Real Madrid, their first loss this season.
In the German Bundesliga, we still have the same two teams going strong at the top of the table. Borussia Dortmund are first in the league thanks to their +16 goal difference, their most recent win coming against Freiburg, winning 5-0. Bayern Munich are at second with the same amount of points (19), being a bit more modest in their most recent win, beating Wolfsburg 1-0 after two consecutive 4-goal performances.
In Italy, with six matches played so far, we have four still undefeated teams. AS Roma are on top of the with a perfect six-for-six. Their most recent win was a 5-0 demolition of Bologna. Napoli & Juventus follow with one draw to ruin their perfect start. Napoli beat Genoa 2-0 this weekend, while Juventus struggled yet still came out on top (1-0) against Torino in a derby match. Inter dropped points for the second time this season (now four points behind Roma) after finishing in a 1-1 draw against Cagliari.
In France, it’s still about Monaco & PSG above the rest. Monaco hold the lead in Ligue 1 thanks to goal difference. They disappointed on their visit to Reims, drawing 1-1, their third draw of the season, and are now level with PSG at 18 points. Paris Saint-Germain enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 win over Toulouse to join Monaco on top.
