Despite the rumors being spewed out by the British press about a possible deal to put Amir Khan and Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the ring together for a May 2014 fight, there has been no confirmation from both camps about the event, who at best might be on the negotiations table, nothing more.

According to the Daily Mail, Amir Khan has signed on to fight with Mayweather Jr. on a $200 million fight, but team Khan quickly responded, claiming nothing has been signed or completed in regards to a fight with Mayweather, and that Khan is currently preparing for his fight (although also not a signed deal yet) with Devon Alexander in December.

As for Mayweather, nothing is a 100% fact with him until you see it on his twitter feed or here someone from Golden Boy talking about it. Mayweather’s last fight against Saul Alvarez (September 14), a dominant majority decision victory, was probably his last in Light Middleweight for quite some time, as he plans to carry on pulverizing the Welterweight division for the rest of his deal with Showtime (four fights left).

There has been much talk about his next potential opponents; not just in terms of who can beat him, which seems to be no one, but also in terms of a lucrative matchup. Mayweather’s comeback fight after being in prison was against Robert Guerrero, which failed to cross the 1 million PPV buys, causing a loss of money for Showtime, who will probably have a lot more input in selecting Mayweather’s next opponents. The Alvarez fight, the most watched PPV boxing bout in history, made up for it in a way.

So who are big names for Mayweather to fight? Maybe Amir Khan, who is a big name internationally, but no so much in the United States, and not someone who has shows he can pose a risk. He has fast hands and power to his punch, but that hasn’t been seen much since moving up from Light Welterweight. The inital plan for Khan in 2011 was to win a fight in Welterweight and get a shot at Mayweather, but being beaten by Lamont Peterson and then Danny Garcia changed the course of his career. He has beaten Carlos Molina and Julio Diaz recently, but Alexander is going to be a tough opponent to get around.

Danny Garcia is the reigning WBC, WBA (Super), and Ring Magazine light welterweight Champion. He has recently beaten Lucas Matthysse to improve to 27-0 and posing the biggest threat to anyone at 140 or 147. He might be the most likely next opponent for Mayweather, but he too doesn’t seem like the kind of fighter who can end the undefeated streak Mayweather holding on to for so many years.
