For the last four years, the game between Florida State and Clemson decided who goes to the ACC championship game from the Atlantic Division, only this time, with both teams still undefeated and ranked in the top 5, it might have huge implications on the BCS picture and even the national championship game.
We haven’t had a road win in this series since 2006, when Clemson won in Tallahassee. It’s the first top 5 meeting this season in College Football, and only the fourth game of such magnitude since Florida State moved to the ACC in 1992. Florida State, however, haven’t won in Clemson since 2001.
Clemson have already beaten a top 5 opponent this season, beating Georgia 38-35 in week 1 this season, and have won the rest of their games this season by 10 points or more each time. Tajh Boyd is in the running for the Heisman trophy having a massive senior season. He’s thrown 15 touchdowns to only two interceptions this season, averaging 297 passing yards per game, with Clemson ranked 10th in the nation in passing and 9th in the nation in points against (16.2 points per game).
There’s plenty of offense coming from Florida State as well, led by Jameis Winston, the red-shirt freshman. Winston has done even better than Boyd, throwing only two interceptions so far this season, adding 17 touchdowns. He has thrown for 1441 yards, completing 73.2% of his passes. Florida State are averaging 549 yards per game, and ranked 10th in the nation in both points for (53.6) and points against (12), with one win over a ranked team, Maryland, beating the #25 teams 63-0.
With all of their problems in Death Vallery of the years, facing the best pass rush in the nation, as Clemson lead the nation with 24 sacks so far this season. Winston has been protected quite well so far this season ,sacked only 8 times on his freshman season. What is important to remember is how badly Florida State have performed in Clemson over the last decade, outgained by almost 80 yards a game in the 5 contests, while committing twice as many turnovers.
Prediction –Â It’s hard to judge the strengths of both teams considering their rivals, but Clemson probably have the more talented defense and wide receivers crew. Considering how evenly matched their numbers seem, it looks like Clemson just have about enough talent and the home advantage to remain undefeated.
