Seattle Seahawks Rumors – Taking it Slow With Percy Harvin

Seattle Seahawks Rumors – Taking it Slow With Percy Harvin

Percy Harvin

In the big arms race of the NFC West, adding Percy Harvin should have been a huge offensive bonus for the Seattle Seahawks. However, his torn labrum surgery has kept him off the field for the last three months, and they’re not rushing him into anything if they don’t have to.

The Seahawks doing quite well so far this season (6-1) is a reason to take it slow with someone who just might be their most talented receiver when healthy, but only recently got back to the practice field, and there’s really no rush in making a decision if to taking him off the PUP list.

Harvin himself seems to be quite eager to get back on the field, but it’s obviously not up to him.

It’s been a long ride, but it’s been worth it and I’m just ready to get back to work with my guys. I want to play as soon as possible. But we’re trying to be smart about it and we have a plan in place. I know one pace, and that’s full stride, so it’s been tough. At the same time, I have to take progressions to not have any setbacks and hurt the team any further.

When talking to head coach Peter Carroll, you get a very different sense of what’s going on, and with the decision to take him off the PUP list still three weeks away, we’re probably not going to see him playing against the Rams on October 28.

It was limited involvement in practice, but he was out there running around. He looked good and looks quick. He’s ready to take the next step, which happens when we come back on Thursday. We’re going to take it one day at a time. He’s got to get through normal days of practice, and we’ll see how he handles it. The thought we’ve been going with all along is to take the conservative approach and make sure he’s healthy. We’re going to continue to do that. We’ll take our time and see how he goes. The workload will increase as we go through the week and next week.

Harvin signed a five-year, $67 million deal after a trade that brought him to Seattle from the Minnesota Vikings. With so much money riding on him, it’s just another reason to take it slow with the receiver who already missed 7 games last year for the Vikings, and knew he wasn’t going to be able to get through another season without having the surgery on his hip.

The Seahawks are 10th in the NFL with 12 passing touchdowns so far this season and are 7th with a 100.8 passer rating. Their leading receivers are Doug Baldwin with 360 yards and a touchdown, followed by Golden Tate with 346 yards and one touchdown reception.
