NFL Rumors – Buffalo Bills Hoping Thad Lewis Can Start

It’s been one long list of problems for the Buffalo Bills this season at quarterback, with a lot of unfortunate injuries. However, their third option, Thad Lewis, is still in the picture of starting for the team in the next game, hoping he’s a bit more than 50-50 regarding his rib injury come game day. If not him, it’ll be the inexperienced Jeff Tuel, becoming the fourth starting quarterback for the Bills this season.

Thad Lewis has done quite well since taking over for EJ Manuel at quarterback, completing 60.2% of his passes, throwing three touchdown passes and two interceptions. He might not be the answer the Bills have been looking for to end their questions at the position, but he has done reasonably well for a third-string quarterback.

However, his rib injury, which didn’t take him out of the loss against the New Orleans Saints, isn’t getting much better, so the Bills are looking to other options. One of them is Jeff Tuel, who almost started in week 1 for the Bills and played once this season against the Cleveland Browns, completing only 40% of his passes and throwing an interception in the loss.

There’s also Matt Flynn, who was released by the Raiders and picked up by the Bills, who also has a less than faith-building performance this season. He started once for the Raiders this year, losing 24-14 against the Redskins. He wasn’t too bad in the game, but was sacked 7 times which led to the Redskins deciding on ending the relationship between them and the player, not fitting their poor offensive line system.

Doug Marrone is keeping the cards close to his chest. For now, while Lewis recovers from his rib contusion, he’s letting Tuel and Flynn share first-team reps in practice, keeping them both on edge about who gets to start. However, it seems that even if Lewis isn’t completely healthy, as long as he’s fit enough to play, the Bills will prefer sticking with him as their starting quarterback.
