Match Highlights – Manchester United vs West Ham

Adan Januzaj

Things are starting to look better for David Moyes and Manchester United. Still no title challenge to speak of, but things are much brighter after finally winning at home, beating West Ham 3-1 thanks to Danny Welbeck, Adnan Januzaj and a fantastic Ashley Young goal, with Wayne Rooney putting in a wonderful performance as well.

The win over the struggling Hammers put United in 7th place, and possibly only two matches away from making it to the top 4 if certain results go their way. It’s also only their fourth home win this season, maybe beginning to step out of their problems at the Old Trafford.

West Ham might be doing well in the League Cup, but continue to look awful in the league, creating only five chances through the entire match, and the only one that actually made it on target was a late goal from Carlton Cole after an awful mistake from Buttner, breaking the offside trap which was working quite well up to that point.

A slightly injured Wayne Rooney started up front along with Danny Welbeck up front, and he provided the first assist to Danny Welbeck, all of a sudden looking like a lethal striker. Welbeck was the one who set up Adnan Januzaj in a quiet yet efficient performance to score the second goal, putting the match beyond the doubt in the first half.

Ashley Young is another player that is suddenly hitting his stride, at least when it comes to scoring goals. He provided a fantastic finish off a Wayne Rooney assist in the second half, curling it from the edge of the box to make it look like a much more impressive win than it actually was.

It’s hard to tell if Manchester United have finally ended their early-season funk, because they’ve shown these signs before this season. However, even without their best scorer from last season, Robin van Persie, it seems that David Moyes has finally found a way to solidify a lineup that works quite well even without playing brilliant football, which is exactly the Manchester United blueprint for success over the last few years.
