NFL Rumors: New York Giants, New York Jets & Cleveland Browns Interested in Signing Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

The Denver Broncos weren’t going to give Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie a big contract, so he’s off to try and find one on the East coast, visiting with both the New York Giants and the New York Jets, the two favorites to land him, while the Cleveland Browns seem to be somewhat of a dark horse in the race after the cornerback.

The Browns are looking for a big name (not that there are many left on the board) to pair up with Joe Haden in the secondary, possibly creating one of the best cornerback pairings in the NFL.

DRC will undergo a physical with the New York Giants, but there’s no agreement in place. The one-time Pro Bowl selection will be turning 28 next season. He has missed only four games through his entire career, and enjoyed another strong season last year, his first and only with the Denver Broncos. He has 19 career interceptions with five returns for a touchdown, fifth among active players.

The New York Jets have let go of his cousin, Antonio Cromartie, and the Rex Ryan system doesn’t just need a new cornerback to fill in for the lost personnel, but it heavily relies on having a top cornerback, a shutdown type, to make his schemes work.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Ryan is pushing badly for this deal to happen, thinking of Rodgers-Cromartie as an ideal piece in his defensive plans. There’s a very good chance we might see some sort of bidding war between the two New York teams, while the Browns are hoping that someone pays them enough attention.
