NFL Rumors – New England Patriots & San Francisco 49ers Interested in Trading for DeSean Jackson

DeSean Jackson

It’s still not quite certain that everyone with the Philadelphia Eagles is on board about trading DeSean Jackson, but there are plenty of teams, especially the New England Patriots and San Francsico 49ers, who are showing a lot of interest in the wide receiver, while the New York Jets,Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders are also presumed to be interested.

The Patriots and 49ers have allegadly already made contact with the Eagles brass regarding the player. What’s it going to take to get him? Some say the Eagles are willing to settle for a third round draft pick (Jackson himself was a 49th overall selection in 2008), and that a second round draft pick is something they won’t be able to refuse.

This isn’t about Jackson’s behavior or ability. Sources claim the Eagles prefer going with someone cheaper. He’ll be making $10.5 million in 2014, and the Eagles would prefer to avoid that. Not by cutting him, but by getting something out of it. After all, he is only 27, and had a record season last year. He played 16 games, finishing with 1332 yards and nine touchdowns, making his third pro bowl game.

Chip Kelly himself said that Jackson won’t be traded, but everyone knows that anonuncements and promises mean nothing. If the Eagles think that they can get the same production out of one or two other players while spending a lot less money and getting a draft pick (or maybe even two) out of it, they’ll be happy to pull the trigger. Skill players, unless they’re all-pro level, like receivers and running backs, just don’t hold the same value to their teams as they once did.

Jackson has been with the Eagles since 2008, posting three seasons of over 1000 yards. He has a total of 6117 yards in 87 games, averaging 70.3 yards a game to go with his 32 career touchdowns. He was still active in the return game last season, although he hasn’t scored a touchdown that way since the 2010 season.
