NFL Rumors – Pittsburgh Steelers Interested in Signing Arthur Moats

Arthur Moats

The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for ways to improve their defense, and it seems they’re quite keen on trying to add linebacker Arthur Moats, who has played for the Buffalo Bills these past four seasons.

Moats, 26, will visit the Steelers, hoping to use his versatility in their 3-4 scheme just like they’ve done with Lawrence Timmons before. Moats started 11 games last season for the Bills as their weakside linebacker, but can play pretty much all around the second line of defense. Whatever position he plays, he’s much better in stopping the run or covering guys then being a pass rusher.

Moats was mostly used as a backup during his first three seasons in Buffalo, who took him with the 178th overall pick (6th round) in 2010, coming out of James Madison. Last season was his first as a (close to) full-time starter, playing in all 16 games, starting in 11 of them, although he didn’t record a single sack, forced fumble or pass deflection.

He has a total of five sacks in his career to go with 119 career tackles. The 2013 campaign was undoubtedly his best so far in his short career, and he’d be a good addition to the Steelers as long as they don’g give him too big of a role, although Moats is looking for a team that will give him plenty of snaps: At least the amount he saw with the Bills last season.
