The best tackle heading into the 2014 NFL Draft just might be Taylor Lewan coming out of Michigan, which is obviously attracting a lot of attention among high pickers like the Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons and the St. Louis Rams, with Lewan visiting all three teams.

He has already met up with the Falcons and Detroit, and will conclude his business by visiting St. Louis in Missouri.  Lewan seems to be a top 10 pick, and all three teams have top 10 picks as well: The Rams have the second and 13th overall selection, Atlanta take the sixth pick and Detroit pick 10th.

The question is whether Lewan is the top tackle in this draft, and also which teams need him the most?

Some think Greg Robinson coming out of Auburn is going to be the first offensive lineman taking off the big board, while Jake Matthews of Texas A&M is also worth mentioning as a very early pick, but it’ll be a big surprise to see Lewan fall out of the top 10 in any case.

The Falcons might be the team with the biggest need at the moment. Sam Baker is coming off an injury and they have last year’s third round pick Lamar Holmes pegged as a starter. The Lions are returning both their starters, and the Rams seem to be very deep in the position, although Lewan might offer an upgrade in any case to a group that includes Jake Long, Rodger Saffold, Chris Wiliams and Joe Barksdale.

Lewan spent all four seasons with Michigan, getting redshirted in his Freshman year back in 2009. He is a two-time All-American, three-time All-Big Ten team selection and twice the winner of the Rimington–Pace Offensive Lineman of the Year for his success in the Big Ten with the Wolverines. He had a chance to enter the draft last season and be a high pick anyway, but it seems like he improved his stock by opting to stay another year.
