No matter how many wins and title belts Floyd Mayweather has, he’s not a very loved fighter, which means that after beating Marcos Maidana most of the memes focus on his style of boxing and his tendency to avoid great fighters in their prime.
Mayweather looked a lot better and harder to hit in the rematch with Maidana, winning by a unanimous decision this time. He didn’t knockout or down the Argentine fighter but had the fight going his way, in the part of the ring he wanted it to happen in.
The last round was a bit weird, as Mayweather actually stopped fighting and was busy running away from Maidana, who also bit Mayweather in the 8th round. People want their boxing champions to be the kind who don’t fear other fighters. They’d also prefer them to be human beings that are slightly likable. Mayweather is a great boxer, but there are very few good things to say about him as a person.
What’s next? Pacquiao? Maybe. He’s no longer in his prime, so that falls into the category of fights Mayweather is willing to schedule, although he’ll probably make it very difficult to get in the ring with him.
