Barcelona didn’t work hard to open with a minimal win over APOEL Nicosia, while Chelsea suffered from a little bit of cruel justice in a home draw against Schalke.

Roma 5 CSKA Moscow 1: Quite the impressive return for Roma to the Champions League in possibly the most inspiring performance of week 1. Roma scored the first five goals through Gervinho (twice), Juan Iturbe with a beautiful goal, Maicon and one own goal from the visitors. Ahmed Musa scored a late goal that didn’t matter for CSKA.
Bayern Munich 1 Manchester City 0: After a brilliant performance by Joe Hart, a 90th minute strike by Jerome Boateng gave Bayern a win in an even match. Bayern Munich had two deserved penalties ignored, Manchester City had one.

Ajax 1 PSG 1: As expected, the French side were the better team on their visit to Amsterdam, taking the lead through Edinson Cavani in the 11th minute but Lasse Schone scored a great equalizer with 15 minutes left, as Ajax failed to take a single shot from inside the box.
Barcelona 1 APOEL 0: A boring, slow and ordinary match at the Camp Nou, decided by a header from Gerard Pique early on, Lionel Messi setting him up with a cross.

Chelsea 1 Schalke 1: Chelsea scored an opener after a Cesc Fabregas foul that wasn’t called. Fabregas himself was fouled as Klaas-Jan Hunterlaar scored the deserved equalizer.
Maribor 1 Sporting 1: A debut for Maribor in the competition, a return after four years for the Portuguese runners-up. Nani opened the scoring in the 80th minute but teenage sensation Luka Zahovic scored the equalizer in the 92nd minute.

Porto 6 BATE Borisov 0: Yacine Brahimi scored a hat trick to star in Porto’s impressive opening act in the competition, followed by goals from Jackson Martinez, Adrian Lopez and Vincent Aboubakar.
