Champions League – Week 1 Results & Table (Groups E – H)

Bayern Munich beat Manchester City

The biggest match of the second day in the opening week for the Champions League was decided with a 90th minute goal as Bayern Munich beat Manchester City. Barcelona didn’t work hard to open with a minimal win over APOEL Nicosia, while Chelsea suffered from a little bit of cruel justice in a home draw against Schalke.

Group E

Roma 5  CSKA Moscow 1Quite the impressive return for Roma to the Champions League in possibly the most inspiring performance of week 1. Roma scored the first five goals through Gervinho (twice), Juan Iturbe with a beautiful goal, Maicon and one own goal from the visitors. Ahmed Musa scored a late goal that didn’t matter for CSKA.

Bayern Munich 1  Manchester City 0After a brilliant performance by Joe Hart, a 90th minute strike by Jerome Boateng gave Bayern a win in an even match. Bayern Munich had two deserved penalties ignored, Manchester City had one.

Ajax 1  PSG 1As expected, the French side were the better team on their visit to Amsterdam, taking the lead through Edinson Cavani in the 11th minute but Lasse Schone scored a great equalizer with 15 minutes left, as Ajax failed to take a single shot from inside the box.

Barcelona 1  APOEL 0A boring, slow and ordinary match at the Camp Nou, decided by a header from Gerard Pique early on, Lionel Messi setting him up with a cross.
