Four minutes of dominance were enough for Arsenal to finally capture a Premier League win, beating Aston Villa 3-0 as the Mesut Ozil – Dannye Welbeck connection worked especially well. Another team bouncing back from a rough time are Real Madrid, destroying Deportivo 8-2 with a hat trick from Cristiano Ronaldo and braces for both Gareth Bale and Javier Hernandez.
Danny Welbeck with a goal and an assist, Mesut Ozil with a goal and an assist. Another own goal from Aly Cissokho. After a very rough week that included drawing at home against Manchester City and looking abysmal in a Champions League loss to Dortmund, this away win with only four real minutes of looking impressive was a great step forward, and a nice way not to over exert themselves before the big derby match in a week from now.
Ozil finally scored a goal after some nice build up work from Welbeck and the Villa defense falling part quite easily against the clever off the ball movement. The second goal was even better, with Ozil coming from the wing to find Welbeck waiting in the middle of the box. After the own goal, Arsenal had about 55 minutes to kill the match with very boring possession, and included an embarrassing moment from Aaron Ramsey.
For Real Madrid, it was almost like another half of their big win over Basel in the middle of the week in the Champions League. If there are matches that make it seem like there’s not enough parity in the Spanish La Liga, this was it.
Obviously, after two consecutive league losses, Real Madrid were bound to explode. And it looked like Deportiovo didn’t do their home work on how to play against Real Madrid, combined with a very poor day from their goalkeeper German Lux resulted in the biggest humiliation we’ve seen this season in the La Liga.
Ronaldo with a hat trick, Javier Hernandez with two garbage time goals, a brace from Gareth Bale and one wonder goal from James Rodriguez who is slowly making people forget about his controversial arrival were enough to make Deportivo’s two goals by Haris Medunjanin and Jose Toche redundant and forgettable.
