Champions League – Week 2 Results & Table (Groups E – H)

Chelsea

The best match of the night as teams from groups E through H of the Champions League was in Paris, as PSG became the first team to beat Barcelona this season in a wonderful 3-2 victory. Chelsea beat Sporting in Lisbon, Bayern Munich slumbered to a victory in Moscow and Manchester City are still without a win after a home draw against Roma.

Group E

CSKA Moscow 0  Bayern Munich 1Thomas Muller converted a penalty kick that shouldn’t have been called, but Bayern were the better team for most of the evening in the early match, remaining perfect through two matches, still not conceding a goal.

Manchester City 1  Roma 1Another match that started with a penalty kick, this time deserved, with Sergio Aguero converting from the spot. Roma equalized quickly through Francesco Totti, becoming the oldest scorer in the history of the competition.

Group F

APOEL 1  Ajax 1Two teams that remain win-less, but APOEL should be pleased after going down to a Lucas Andersen goal. Gustavo Mandunca scored from the penalty spot four minutes later in a controversial call.

PSG 3  Bayern Munich 2A fantastic night of football in Paris, handing Barcelona their first loss of the season, as they also conceded goals for the first time. David Luiz opened the scoring but Lionel Messi equalized a minute later. Marco Veratti gave them the lead again and Blaise Matuidi set the win in stone early in the second half. Neymar made things interesting, but Barcelona couldn’t finish the comeback.

Schalke 1  Maribor 1A wild match with a total of 37 shots at goal. Maribor took the lead through Damjan Bohar but Klaas Jan Huntelaar equalized early in the second half, as both teams repeated their results from the opening match.

Sporting 0  Chelsea 1An aggressive match in Lisbon that ended with Nemanja Matic being the hero for the Premier League leaders, scoring in the 34th minute off a cross from Cesc Fabregas.

Group H

BATE 2  Athletic Bilbao 1A stunning win for the Belorussian champions, although Bilbao had an awful start to the season. Denis Polyakov and >Aleksandr Karnitskiy scored before Aduriz’ goal in the 45th minute, which wasn’t enough for the visitors to avoid defeat.

Shakhtar 2  Porto 2Playing in Lviv, Shakhtar led 2-0 in the 85th minute after goals from Alex Teixeira and Luiz Adriano, but Porto salvaged a point with two goals from Jackson Martinez in the 89th minute and the 93rd.
