Mullets and mustaches seem to be the most recognizable features of footballers in the 1970’s. That’s the concept behind the nice art project, picturing Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and other star footballers as they would have looked like in the 1970’s.

While some of the players here do get a proper makeover, like Wayne Rooney, in the days before expensive hair plugs (or simply he wouldn’t have made enough money to afford them) or the accurate depiction of Messi and Ronaldo as 70’s stars, others don’t look that different.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic seems pretty much the same, and so does Yaya Toure, only with a bit of a fiercer beard.

And Steven Gerrard? Something about the hairstyle seems to be a little bit more 80’s, not 70’s, but it’s still drastic enough to fit the makeover purposes.
