Here are the five tallest players earning their money playing in the English Premiership in 2010-2011.

Number 5-4 (tied), 1.97 meters – Edwin Van der Sar (Manchester United) and Pascal Zuberbuhler (Fulham)

About a year ago, maybe a bit more, Van der Sar was one of the top keepers in the world, but now, circa October 2010, the 6’5 and a half Dutch keeper, with over 754 club matches behind him, 130 caps for the national team, seven league titles, two Champions League trophies and two time European goalkeeper of the year, he looks every bit of his 39 years and far from a safe bet between the goalposts.

Another 39 year old keeper, Pascal Zuberbuhler is also retired from his national team, Switzerland, after 51 caps. He has never reached the achievements and the ability of Van der Sar but is enjoying a quiet and peaceful career twilight – lounging on the Fulham bench since 2008.

Number 3-2 (tied), 1.98 meters – Peter Crouch (Tottenham) and Zat Knight (Bolton)

The reports on Peter Crouch’s height vary from 1.97-2.01, but the Premiership’s official site says it’s 1.98, 6’6, and we trust them. Besides being engaged to super hot Abigail Clancy Crouch is a pretty good player and scorer, with 92 Premiership goals in his career and 21 for the national team. Despite his height, Crouch does tend to surprise fans again and again by doing stuff besides just rising high for headers. He’ll never be a superstar striker, but he’s a damn good one to have in your squad, at any team.

The Bolton Centre back, also 29 years old, has been around the Premier League for 10 years now, ever since helping Fulham get promoted in 2001. He has also played with Aston Villa for two seasons but lost his place in the lineup during his second year there. He’s been playing and happy at Bolton since July 2009.

Number 1, 2.02 meters – Nikola Zigic

Not the most talented of strikers, but his physical presence causes problems for almost any opponent. Zigic gained interest in the continent after scoring 71 goals in four seasons with Red Star Belgrade, earning him a transfer to La Liga’s Racing Santander, where he scored 11 goals on his first season. He got purchased by Valencia for 20 million pounds, but never managed to play consistently with the club. During his tenure there he got loaned back to Santander for a while, showing his scoring prowess again with 13 in 19 matches. Birmingham took the chance on the Serbian giant this summer and have so far enjoyed 2 goals in 8 matches from the 6’7 international, who has scored 19 times for Serbia so far in 51 caps.
