Kansas Beats Iowa State – Big 12 Still Not Getting a New King

Kansas beat Iowa State

Statistics suggest that Iowa State are the best team in the Big 12 when it comes to offense, but those numbers weren’t enough in their attempt to beat Kansas for a second time this season. The Jayhawks remain in a league of their own in a conference they more or less own, winning 89-76.

No team has beaten Kansas twice in the same season since the 2000-2001 season. Iowa State are actually the last to do it, but their offense hit a snag in the road and fell apart as their defense gave up 54 points in the second half, shooting just 41.7% from the field. Iowa State had just Georges Niang who seemed to be in a good enough soothing form to keep up with the Kansas scoring.

Wayne Selden Jr. scored 20 points (5-of-7 from beyond the arc), 19 of those points coming in the second half. Perry Ellis finished with 17 points and 6 rebounds and Kelly Oubre Jr. added 16 points with 5 rebounds. Kansas are now two games ahead of the Cyclones in the conference with just one loss (Iowa State are at 6-3). The only team between them at the moment are West Virginia at 6-2. The Mountaineers still have to play Kansas twice and at Iowa State.
