When Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao get in the ring and fight, it’ll be six years later than it should have happened, but it doesn’t hurt the excitement from this boxing epic coming together, as you can tell by the memes.
After this fight is over, there will be no more talk of ducking, of PEDs (hopefully) and other things that were at the heart of the debate of why this isn’t happening. Everyone should be happy with the money that both camps are going to make. There’s nothing to argue about anymore.
But it might also be a bad day for boxing. The anticipation of this fight happening one day was a key part of the sport, although not having the two premier faces in boxing fight each other was worse. Like sexual tensions between two characters in a TV series, the moment you put them together, you risk ruining everything.
But this isn’t The Adventures of Lois & Clark. This is boxing, a sport, a vicious one at that. The two best fighters in each weight class shouldn’t be waiting for so many years to get in each other’s face. It might be past their prime for both of them, but at least it’s going down. Better late than never.
