NFL Rumors – Arizona Cardinals or San Francisco 49ers Will Sign Darnell Dockett

Darnell Dockett

The entire NFC West: Seattle Seahawks, St. Louis Rams, San Francisco 49ers and the Arizona Cardinals are trying to sign Darnell Dockett. It seems he’s going to make his choice between the Niners and the Cards.

Not too long ago, Dockett was released by the Cardinals. The 33-year old defensive lineman who has three pro bowl and one first team All-Pro selections missed all of the 2014 season because of a torn ACL. Owed $6.5 million in base salary and coming with a $9.8 million cap hit counting against his 2015 season, the Cardinals released Dockett which helped them clear $6.8 million from their salary cap.

But Dockett is healthy and hungry for football again. He has visited with the 49ers and will receive an offer from them. From here, it’s about the money and time teams are going to give him. He hasn’t made a Pro Bowl since 2010 and his dominant days or being an every snap kind of player  are probably over, but he’s still a very useful player to have.

Dockett has been in the NFL since 2004, playing his entire career with the Cardinals, doing quite well for a third round pick out of Florida State. He has 40.5 sacks in 158 career games, and has been fortunate enough to return two fumbles for touchdowns. He was named to the first team All-Pro in 2009.
