There won’t be any agreement between Michael Crabtree and the San Francisco 49ers, but there is interest for the wide receiver despite his bad 2014 season, with both the Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers showing an interest in him.

It’s been a slow developing market for Crabtree. Some thought maybe non existent except for staying in San Francisco, where it doesn’t seem anyone from the successful years of Jim Harbaugh’s tenure want to stay.

Crabtree, never the fastest of receivers, was even slower in 2014. He caught 68 passes for 698 yards and failed to register a single game of over 90 receiving yards. The injury that kept him out for most of the 2013 season (19 receptions, 284 yards) kicked in to make it very difficult for him, not to mention the other problems the 49ers’ offense was having, to make an impact.

Crabtree had a big season in 2012, the year Alex Smith got benched (because of an injury initially) and Colin Kaepernick rose to prominence, although things have taken a different direction since then. Crabtree was his favorite target that year and through the playoffs, finishing with 85 receptions for 1105 yards. That is the only season with over 900 yards in receiving for Crabtree, a first round pick in 2007.

The Chargers have been looking at him since the beginning of this free agency, and Redskins’ interest is something a little more fresh. Both teams could use a lot of help in their passing game, and as long as Crabtree doesn’t ask for too much money or years, there’s a place for him on both teams. There’s not a whole lot he can do, but as a number three receiver and a decent pay check he can be quite a bargain.
