A video that came out today showing Wayne Rooney boxing with Phil Bardsley in his kitchen showed the Manchester United getting knocked out in worrying fashion. While the controversy and drama rose and calmed through the day, the England international had no problem making fun of the incident in a match later on.

Rooney scored the third goal in a 3-0 win for Manchester United over Tottenham, with all three goals coming within the first 34 minutes. The victory knocked Tottenham further away from competing for a Champions League spot and gave Manchester United a five point lead over fifth placed Liverpool, who have a match in hand.

So what was great about Rooney celebrating his goal? He knows about the jokes and puns being made. He celebrated the goal by running towards an angle that he can be properly filmed from, made a few phantom punches and then dropped back like he just got knocked out.

Getting punched on that occasion by Bardsley didn’t seem to make a difference either. Rooney scored a pair of goals six days later in a match with Sunderland.
