It’s unlikely Greg Jennings is going to get his wish of playing once more for the Green Bay Packers. Surely, there are other jobs for him in the NFL, right? Maybe the Carolina Panthers? Or even the Miami Dolphins?
Jennings met with Carolina officials over the weekend and the interest in the veteran wide receiver has been picking up over the last few days. The Miami Dolphins, revamping their receiving corps as well, are also about to meet with him on a visit, but might not be in such a hurry to sign him.
The Panthers and their passing game woes are known to all. In an attempt to make things a little bit easier for Cam Newton and not a lot of options on the market or the draft to improve their wide receiver situation, they might be in a bit more of a hurry to sign Jennings.
And Jennings himself? He’s in no rush if the rumors about multiple teams chasing him following his two-year stint in Minnesota are true. Jennings isn’t the Pro Bowl caliber player he was in Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers throwing to him (including three seasons of 1000 yards receiving or more), but he’s still a useful piece in a passing scheme, and someone who can add some vital experience to the locker room.
Jennings has been in the league since 2006, playing eight season with the Packers before moving on to play for the Vikings, not switching divisions. He has 552 career receptions for 8083 yards and 63 touchdowns. Except for an injury that made him miss half of the 2012 season, he’s been available on game day almost every Sunday, missing just one game for the Vikings in two years despite entering his 30’s.
Last season he was targeted 92 times, catching 59 passes for 742 yards and six touchdowns. In terms of average yards, scoring and first downs he was responsible for, it was his best season since 2011.
