The Seattle Seahawks aren’t picking up the fifth-year option for pass rusher Bruce Irvin, and are now possibly trying to move him via trade, with the Atlanta Falcons very interested in getting something done.

Irvin will forever be known as the first player to ever get thrown out of the Super Bowl, punching Rob Gronkowski and starting a brawl. He was also fined $10,000 for his actions. Combine that with a substance abuse violation in 2013 and nothing special in his production since his rookie season, and it’s not surprising that the Seahawks don’t want to overpay him in 2016.

The Falcons, missing the playoffs two years in a row, need help about everywhere on the field, and knowing that the Seahawks are trying to create even more cap space for themselves by getting rid of players who are going to demand a lot of money in an extension or through their fifth-year options, and might not be trying to get too much out of sending Irvin.

Irvin has been in the NFL since 2012, a 15th overall pick that year. Despite not being a starter, his most productive year (and the only season with 16 games) was in 2012 with 8 sacks. He added 8.5 sacks over the next two seasons, playing 15 times in 2014. His most impressive achievement has been his two defensive touchdowns coming from returning his two interceptions.

Irvin is from Atlanta, where he played high school football until dropping out during the middle of his junior year. he played community college football before transferring to West Virginia in 2010.
