It’s going to be a while before the reactions following the Floyd Mayweather victory over Manny Pacquiao subside. In the the meantime, it’s a great opportunity to see what meme makers have been coming up with regarding the fight.
Nothing new. Pacquiao fans keep blaming Mayweather for hugging and ducking in the ring, although it’s hard to understand their logic. If Mayweather thinks his best strategy is not going toe to toe with Pacquiao but pulling him in and winning through jabs and counters, why not use it?
Yes, we all want champions that simply slug it out and win through bravery, heart and strength. But boxing, even if it doesn’t look very entertaining at times, isn’t about all that, or not just that. Sometimes it’s defense, patience and doing the dirty tricks (like headlocking fighters constantly) at the right time. It’s about doing what you can to win, even if it means putting on a disappointing boxing show.
Mayweather isn’t a champions that’s easy to love. Maybe not even a person that deserves adoration from boxing fans due to all that he has done in his personal life. But he is the better boxer than Pacquiao, shoulder injury or not. Too bad he’s not an exciting one to watch.
